I'm an artist.

Erica Missey

As a child, I was obsessed with animated cartoons. I wanted to grow up and make cartoons myself. I drew constantly on every piece of paper I could get my hands on (including the margins of my encyclopedias). After graduating high school, I attended Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and earned a Bachelor's Degree, double-majoring in Studio Art and Communication. Durning my sophomore year, Bill Bristow, art professor and advisor, suggested that I try my hand at caricatures. After my first few gigs, I realized I could help pay my bills and have a lot of fun with people while drawing them at events.

After graduating, I was hired by Heart of Texas Productions in Austin, where I had the privilege of working on animated films including "Space Jam", "Quest for Camelot", and "The Prince of Egypt", as well as television commercials, video games, and direct-to-video cartoons. While doing animation, I continued to caricature at parties and events on the side.

In 2000 I was invited to join a start-up children's book publisher as their lead artist. I also worked for the multimedia company creating and editing graphics. In 2002, after a brief stint as a full-time, retail caricaturist at two locations in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, I returned home to Texas to focus on caricaturing and illustration work.

From 2004-2015, I ran a caricature and face painting retail stand at the San Antonio Zoo.

In 2007, the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio commissioned me to do a temporary mural for the construction wall in front of the new wing. That year, I also had the honor of illustrating Agman Games' first card game, "Reels & Deals: The Movie-Making Card Game."

In addition caricaturing and drawing commissions, I've illustrated 19 books - more details about these can be found on my "Illustrated Books" link.

I'm also a painter - I love doing abstract pieces in acrylic. Many of my paintings have sold to collectors throughout the United States.

When I'm not making art, I play music. I'm currently the singer/drummer and studio bassist for the band Hellgrimm. I played bass, later drums and sang lead vocals for the band Monkeysoop. I also  played drums and sang back-up vocals for the band Green Jellÿ.
